Google is changing the way users view results on its Search page. According to reports, the traditional pagination bar will replace the endless scrolling functionality in search results.
The current page structure mimicked the infinite scrolling nature of social media feeds, and first appeared on mobile devices in 2021, followed by desktop search results in 2022.
According to The Search Engine Land, Google is deleting the continuous scroll function from desktop search results, with a similar shift planned for mobile results in the coming months.
The traditional pagination bar, which will replace continuous scrolling, will allow users to go to a specific page of search results or click “Next” to proceed to the next page. On mobile devices, the “More results” button will appear at the bottom of a search to load the next page.
According to Search Engine Land, the move will allow Google to offer search results faster for more searches, rather than automatically loading results that users haven’t expressly requested.
